With a diverse childhood landing her in over 10 different schools, Katie was aware early on of the regional differences within the culture of the United States. This combined with her personal philosophy that everyone can teach you something, forged in her an insatiable curiosity about the cultures of the greater world around her. Her first international travel experience was at 17, when she participated in a humanitarian housing project in Mexico. Excited and humbled by the human connection that exists between people who live in completely different worlds, she knew that she was on to something she loved. Her passion was further developed when she spent several weeks backpacking through Europe as a young college student. Her love of travel and belief in its transformative power in young people led her to join No Barriers as part of the Global Explorers team in 2010. Since then, her passion and work have grown to contribute to our other programs, including her current role as the Summit Director. She is excited to contribute to the many ways that No Barriers enables our community to develop their best selves and make a difference in the world around them.
When she’s not at work, she spends most of her time with her husband, Steven, a middle school teacher, their daughter, Emmaline, and their dog, Chaco. Together they enjoy the outdoors, a constant hunt for good, new music, and cooking great food. Katie also loves to engage her creative side with reading, writing, and painting. She’s always up for a good chat, and values one thing above all else: honesty.
